Matt Mooney is a Covington, Kentucky-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and compulsive creative with a catalog that spans three decades and more projects than most people have hobbies. He came up through Super77 and Koala Fires before founding Royal Holland, the project under which he released two vinyl records. He currently fronts the Cincinnati rock band Juan Electro alongside Wes Pence, Brian Kitzmiller, and Kip Roe. He creates pinkish hip hop under the moniker Meany Motto and is currently collaborating with Payso Best Ever (who he also manages) on a concept LP called “Invisible” out this fall. His solo work, backed live by The Invisible Invincibles, is where those threads converge into something entirely his own.

Off stage, Mooney lives and records in a former commercial bakery in Covington, where a converted school bus sits out back in various states of becoming something. He is also deep into L’Ours Noirs, a self-referential novel about the philosophy of Everything and Nothing — which, depending on the day, he’ll tell you is either his most ambitious project or just what happens when you think too much.
