FAB Opening: Sara Mulhauser

Join Sara Mulhauser - Featured Artist Boost (FAB) artist during the month of July, for a reception, Saturday, July 11, 6-8pm at Swell Art Cafe! During the month of July, Swell Art Cafe will be turned into the arctic circle showcasing Sara's iceberg sculptures.

Stop by for some conversation, dinner, and drinks.  Special menu items for July include "the Keel" cocktail and " the Berg" salad. A Keel is what the underside of an iceberg is called, and the Berg is in honor of my grandmother's Norwegian heritage.

The Keel is a specialty cocktail for the month of july and consists of: stirred vodka, cointreau, lemon, and simple syrup drink with a splash of blue to resemble icy waters. The Berg is the special menu item of the month, and is a quarter of a head of iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, homemade blue cheese dressing with a choice of smoked salmon on the side (additional cost).

All can be seen and had at Swell Art Cafe, 2936 Colerain Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45225. Through the month of July.

Cincinnati-based artist Sara Mulhauser has been printing, building sculptures, and drawing for over 34 years. Her work is inspired by dramatic scenes created by nature in the atmosphere, oceans, and landscapes.

Recently, the content of Sara's work has shifted to iceberg sculptures as a way to visualize how society encounters one another. As we move away from isolation and into community spaces, Sara began imagining individuals as icebergs, where only a small visible portion is immediately apparent while deeper experiences and connections remain hidden beneath the surface. She wondered if art could unlock these submerged discussions.

Sculpture allows Sara to explore the tension between what is visible and what is unseen. She hopes to reconnect with artists as well as meet new artists in the city over a cool spot, artwork, and conversation during the month of July. Sara has shown her work nationally and regionally. A highlight of her career was sharing her racetrack prints on national TV as the “NASCAR Fan of the Week.”
